2003 / Gustav Szathmáry

Gustav Szathmáry is a project realised during a one year stay at the Kuenstlerhäuser in Worpswede in 2003. Worpswede is a small village in the north of Germany and was an artist colony in the beginning of the 20th century, founded by artists Otto Modersohn and Heinrich Vogeler, whos intention was to escape from the city to find a new spirit in art on the country side. The most famous artist of that time was Paula Modersohn-Becker, who is still worshiped and a magnet for tourism. She had a controversial life and died young at the age of 34, after giving birth to a daughter. In this context the character of  Gustav Szathmáry is placed to be engaged with Paula Modersohn-Becker.
